Inside the hive

Brood Monitor

Follow the colony between inspections.

Brood Monitor sits in the brood box and reads temperature, humidity and sound around the brood. BeePrecise turns those readings into what changed and what may be worth a look when you return.

  • Reads temperature, humidity and sound
  • Runs on a CR2032 coin cell
  • Syncs to your phone or an Apiary Hub

What Brood Monitor can do for you.

The brood nest tells you a lot about a colony. Brood Monitor keeps reading it while the lid stays closed.

Know how the brood nest is doing.

Follow brood-area temperature and humidity against the colony’s own usual pattern.

Hear changes in colony activity.

Brood Monitor reads sound as patterns of activity. Audio is never stored or uploaded.

Spot signs worth a look.

When readings drift from the usual pattern, the app flags the hive and explains what it may mean.

Plan your next inspection.

See which colonies are stable, which need attention and which need more data, so you open the right hive first.

How it works.

Inside the hive, and part of the same picture as every other BeePrecise device.

Where Brood Monitor sits and how its readings reach youA Brood Monitor inside the brood box and a Hive Scale beneath the hive send readings over Bluetooth to an Apiary Hub on a solar-powered pole. The Hub passes them to BeePrecise, which updates the app on the beekeeper’s phone.Hive Scaleunder the hiveBrood Monitorinside the hiveApiary Hubat the apiaryBeePreciseBeePrecise appon your phone

    Place it by the brood

Brood Monitor goes inside the brood box, close to the brood nest. Close the hive as usual.

  2. 02

    It reads the brood nest

Temperature, humidity and sound are read through the day and night, while the colony carries on undisturbed.

  3. 03

    You see what changed

The BeePrecise app compares the colony with its usual pattern and tells you which hive may need a closer look, and why.

How it connects.

Brood Monitor works with phone sync on its own, or through an Apiary Hub when you want readings between visits.

  1. 1Each device keeps its readings.
  2. 2You open the BeePrecise app at the apiary.
  3. 3Readings sync to your phone over Bluetooth.
  4. 4Back in signal, your phone uploads them.
  5. 5BeePrecise updates your hives and briefings.

On its own, Brood Monitor keeps its readings until you visit. Open the BeePrecise app near the hive and they sync over Bluetooth.

Phone sync

Readings arrive
Each time you visit and open the app
You need
The BeePrecise app on your phone. No extra hardware.
Good for
Hives close to home, regular visits and apiaries without signal

Apiary Hub

Readings arrive
Through the day, wherever you are
You need
One Apiary Hub per apiary, with mobile signal or Wi-Fi
Good for
Distant or several yards, crews and planning your rounds

Either way, once readings reach BeePrecise they lead to the same colony verdict and AI Briefing. The Hub makes them fresher. You can start with phone sync and add a Hub later.

Buyer’s guide

Is Brood Monitor right for you?

A good fit if

  • You want to know how a colony is doing between inspections, without opening the hive.
  • You want earlier signs of swarm risk, queen issues or brood interruption that may be worth a check.
  • You keep hives you cannot open as often as you would like: out-yards, busy seasons, bad weather.
  • You would rather inspect by need than by the calendar.

You may not need it yet if

  • You mainly want to follow the nectar flow and stores. Start with Hive Scale. Hive Scale
  • You are looking for something to replace inspections. BeePrecise points you to a hive; you still check and decide.
  • You want the hive watched with nobody visiting it. Beekeeping still needs a beekeeper.

How many do I need?

One Brood Monitor per hive you want to follow. Many beekeepers start with the colonies they watch most closely, or a few hives in each yard, then broaden coverage.

Works well with

Pair it with a Hive Scale under the same hive. A change in sound and temperature, followed by a sharp drop in weight, tells a clearer story than either signal alone.

Brood Monitor questions

Does Brood Monitor record audio?

No. It reads sound as patterns of colony activity. Audio is not stored or uploaded.

Where does it go in the hive?

Inside the brood box, close to the brood nest, with the hive closed as usual. We walk you through placement when you set up.

Can it tell me my colony is queenless?

It can point to changes that may be consistent with a queen issue, such as brood temperature drifting and the colony sounding quieter. You confirm what is happening when you open the hive.

Do I need an Apiary Hub?

No. Brood Monitor works with phone sync on its own. Add an Apiary Hub when you want readings between visits, or when your hives are far away.
